I dont really think we're in an "if you build it they will come" era of the internet anymore given the giants we're up against, but I still get what you're saying. I think "stop trying to appeal *to everyone*" might be mroe how I think of it. I hope we are headed in the direction of apps that are highly opinionated and do their specific goal very well (and therefore have a target audience and niche) rather than trying to mass appeal (and therefore ending up boring and appealing to no one).
