Then she asks what I think the items are worth, and I explain that the idea of the garage sale for the benefit of the grandkids may not occur because the proceeds may to be used for the mortgage.
And there is silence. Finally, she asks why.
There is no more money. And she says that my husband has withheld this information. I tell her she is wrong. She insists she asked my husband the prior week whether there was still money, and my husband said yes. My husband has since denied this conversation occurred.
I tell her that if he said yes, he was referring to the fact that there is money, but it is not a lot. And it will not pay the mortgage much longer. I ask if she knows that the estate needs to repay some funds. My FIL had a great pension, and received a payment 23 hours after he died. That must be repaid.
She is now a bit concerned. And blaming my husband for not sharing this information with his brother.
