But yes, I think perhaps my biggest gripe with Nolan as a filmmaker is that I have often left his films with questions I was eager to explore but they are never interrogations of the deeper themes that are implied to surround the narrative. They are always "how does that mechanically work?" & "what factually happened at that specific point or with that specific character?"
It tickles the brain pleasantly. When I did enjoy Chris Nolan, this was why. My brain felt actively involved.
