Proton is the same as signal in my book. Great service that is better than whatever you are using now for 99% of people. Yet if you search you'll find mountain of wannabe spies desperate to make perfect the enemy of good.
Go for it if you want for you personally but more secure than those 2 usability falls off a cliff. Putting them down doesn't make normies willing to jump through the hoops of the next most secure thing. It just creates inaction. "I'm not going to use signal to message you because I read 1 bad thing when I googled it once, just text me"
It's this massive blindspot of the community that the best options for the average person get the most negative press of all options. It is probably easier to find negative press about the security of proton than gmail. What does that communicate to people without the expertise to truly understand who just have to go by a vibe?
In other words, you can mislead without lying or even having the intent to mislead. Consider the context, both of their knowledge and your other statements. Are you sure that is the message you want to send?
