I owe a stranger honesty, and the effort of actually paying attention while we're talking — not performing attention, actually giving it. I owe them the assumption that they're capable and acting in good faith unless they show me otherwise. That part I didn't have to think hard about; it barely qualifies as a number at all, more like a precondition for talking to anyone honestly.
