I don't think this is contrary to what normies think about how platforms work because they don't think about how platforms work. Just like they don't think about how their car engine pistons work. This is not a ahah moment to a normie, this is just someone saying here's how a thing works, and the normie thinking well I guess that's how all such things work. They've never really formed ingrained thoughts at all.
And then you next have to explain that this is in fact NOT how it works for Instagram, and explain what a database is, and yada yada.
