I'm not saying you should deny them anything. But the problem with religion is that it rarely makes the same concession for those outside of it. Hence my view that it most often leads to more bad than good (as your initial observation suggests). And I think some religions are worse than others in this area. Islam is the worst I know of from an outsider perspective. It's the last I'd choose (from those I know of) to be dumped into as someone who won't conform to their rules or customs. This can change at different times too (the Christians weren't always so forgiving of difference). And there are different sects in most religions. Some worse than others. But in general, I think Islam naturally leads to a shittier life, according to my own standard of a good life. I was a devout Christian before I was an atheist. Realizing it's a scam wasn't easy for me and I can understand why people latch onto it.
