But coyotes are sneaky and hard to spot. And some of them know how to pretend to act like an ordinary dog, at least at a distance. But most of all, they are mainly active an hour or so before sunrise, when humans are the least likely to be even awake, and probably groggy and unaware of their surroundings. I don't find it all surprising that most people never see coyotes.
