I actually think there is some truth to it. Particularly in highly developed civilizations. But it seems that its opposite in civilizations where it appears absent in the aggregate level. This seems true, inspite of some of those less developed civilizations being highly social. So I think there is some element (maybe hidden) that comes into play.
