They show this graph as a way to make the point that outside of Covid, the number of people unemployed for 27 weeks or longer is really high. What they hide is that after the crash in late 2008 this number peaked at 6.8 million which is the current count PLUS the covid peak.

NO, "I need a job" is a terrible answer. As a hiring manager, it isn't my responsibility to meet an applicant's needs, it's my role to find a good fit for the opening. A good fit is a two way street. Somebody who answers with I need a job is indicating that he doesn't care if it's a good fit or not.

These are all good points. Being relatively close to retirement, I certainly have assets that would be affected, but I have lots of hedges and land on which I could grow/raise food. We manage our expenses and make sure that we could live on half of our anticipated retirement income. If it goes beyond that, I have guns.

Huge financial crises are a dime a dozen. The hugest is the one that occurs in one's lifetime.
If AI puts everybody out of a job, then customers won't exist. If customers don't exist, companies can't make any money. If there are no people working and no companies making money, Government has no revenue.
Farmers can still grow food, but wouldn't be able to sell it.
So, eventually govt will see the threat to itself and put on some brakes, or an alternative ecomomy will arise.

When I was a kid, we moved a lot and I can remember that every time we did, my father complained about having to move that "old piece of junk" when I was in 20, I snuck it out of their house and got the broken spindle replaced and had it recaned. That piece was expensive because its black walnut, which is fairly scarce. When it was all done, I gave it to my mother for mother's day. She has now been able to use it for over 40 years. I've been thinking about going to visit my younger brother. He is wrong in the head and lives in a group home far away. They way these things are rated, often renders them meaningless.
Things such as relative poverty, what does that mean? I've seen poverty in many countries, is pretty impossible to find anything similar in the US, (except among drug addicts and the like)
("US ranks lower due to inequality and social factors" In otherwords, US isn't configured to our liking)
And inequality is unaviodable if economic mobility is high.

I haven't had much success with that either. So I limit my sandwich intake and when I have one I just use multi grain bread. Occaisionally I have a wrap, but I'm skeptical, and sometimes a lettuce wrap, but it's not great.

For college, I got a credit card with my kids names on it for emergencies. They took to calling it the company card. They have both been very responsible with it. I told them they could keep it for one year, post graduation, to give them time to build up an emergency fund. I actually think there is some truth to it. Particularly in highly developed civilizations. But it seems that its opposite in civilizations where it appears absent in the aggregate level. This seems true, inspite of some of those less developed civilizations being highly social. So I think there is some element (maybe hidden) that comes into play.

Many years ago, I used to program. I've forgotten a lot and much has changed. I now find myself in a position where I need to do some of it. So I consulted with AI to brush me up on some changes and help with things I couldn't remember. It was very helpful but, I would have preferred it be all business. I stopped by my daughters apartment to drop off something she wanted. While there, I noticed, for the first time, that its wheel chair friendly. It has the wide doors and hallways and bars by the toilet and a wheel in shower. This might be nice for someone that needed it. I'm old and first got married long ago and then when she died, I remarried 25 years ago. So I have zero exposure to the modern dating scene. However, from the outside looking it, it seems to be very broken and there seem to be many disincentives for getting married and having babies.
It also seems to me that life in the modern world has evolved in such a way as to delay marriage well past peak fertility. I doubt one generation can reverse this. I'm just hoping for progress.

Somehow, the goats had jumped the half wall and were in the open part of the barn and seemingly unharmed and there was a dead coyote on the floor of the barn. The dogs had torn him to pieces it seems, turns out though that only one dog had blood all over his face (our 150 lb Bernese Mountain Dog). im not sure I follow. The save act doesnt appear to do anything to change the passport process. Nor would a passport be necessary to vote. So if possible to make it more difficult for some people, it must be possible now and since it wouldnt stop somebody from voting, it doesn't seem there would be an increased incentive.

For a year we've been fighting the IRS over two things. One was that they charged us penalties and interest for their mistake. Another was over their inability to do basic math. In the end we got sick of it and didn't want to go to court over $13k, so we just ate the injustice and paid it. That was 3 weeks ago Today we get a letter from the IRS saying we have over paid our taxes for the last 3 years along with a check for $136k. I shudder to think what this will ultimately cost us.

Our Christmas tree was 12 feet tall. When we got it my son was here to help carry it. I had to take it out by myself. It was too heavy, so I vacuumed out the remaining water and layed it down then cut it in half. Tossed half to the goats and half to the sheep. They're still munching on it. It took about 20 minutes to get it out but lugging a 7ft wide tree thru a 5 foot wide hall and 3 foot wide door and sawing it in the house made a huge mess. Cleaning that up took 2 hours. Ima get a fake.

Something it doesn't mention is riding around in the car without restraints (car seats or seat belts) and climbing all over it. I think that part of the reason freedom is less appreciated now is that many people have grown up without it. Somewhere along the way it became normal to sacrafice freedom and adventure for safety.
I tried very hard to re-create some of this stuff with my kids, with moderate success. i think they will pass it on and think the pendulem will swing.

And overly high housing prices are bad for everybody in the long term.
People get used to the idea that their house is worth some huge amount of money, so they try to sell it and then discover it's over valued for the demand, so take it off the market. In time demand and supply will level out and falling prices now, are not a surprise (except for the "experts", who are retards) and good news in the long term.

This supply/demand imbalance put huge upward price pressure on houses. And they increased nearly 25% in some places ,in 4 years.
When houses increase this much and interest rates have also increased, more and more people are priced out of the market and more and more people decide to sell and realize their huge gains.
So in time supply increases and demand drops. This then puts downward price pressure on houses.

The national debt, plus unfunded liabilities, is over $325,000 per taxpaying american and is increasing every day.
Part of unfunded liabilities is the Social Security shortage. During the surplus years the Government spent the surplus. They have a drawer somewhere with a bunch of IOU's in it. This is what is referred to as the Social Security Trust fund. Since this is money the government owes to itself, it isn't counted as part of the national debt.
I'm sure we can all trust the fund.

My fantasy is a constitutional convention by the states. I would like to see the following amendments passed.
