You're not wrong. Around here, we had a few more bus services back in the '80s: Certainly you could reach quite a few outlying places that are no longer served at all by public transport. But most of the local branch rail services disappeared before I was born, in the Beeching axe of the mid '60s. Some recent attempts have been made to rectify this crime, but it is very slow progress. Ironically this year we are celebrating 200 years of rail travel in the North East of England. 🙄
