I'm not sure that anything is inherently corrupt, but the centralized power of government makes it the quickest route to power. Yes, the drive for more wealth is what's behind that corruption when corporations capture govt, but the drive for wealth is not inherent in corporations; it's inherent in humans. Is it inherent in all humans, or most, or just a handful? idk and I'm not sure it matters, because whatever the incentive structure, those humans will find a way to exploit it. They'll do that in socialism, they'll do that in communism, they'll do that in capitalism. The more centralized the starting system, the shorter the route to exploitation.
Worker cooperatives sound terrific to me, and in a better world I can imagine them in a context of small government and hard money, where no one has power over the framework for setting them up, where they can be genuine grassroots initiatives among freely-cooperating humans.
