Reminds me that it's very easy to capitulate to the grim reality we find ourselves in – who cares, everything i do is being watched anyway, might as well give up, etc.

Instead, we should be building a culture of doing the best we can – use the tools where there are real alternatives, help build the ones that are still too hard to use.
