I spent almost all day pulling data off the robot and adding a suite of backdoors in preparation for the update. I ended up installing four, and good thing I did because when I embarked on the update it wiped out three of them. The fourth one held (though I suspect it uses A/B system partitions (?)).

The update “randomizes” the os user passwords, though I suspect I’ll discover it’s like md5(${device_serial}123) or something.

Now I have a root upgrade-surviving shell. Nice try, China.
