⚡️💻 TECH - Good news for Linux users with AMD GPUs: Full HDMI 2.1 support is on the way.

AMD engineer Harry Wentland has submitted initial kernel patches implementing HDMI Fixed Rate Link (FRL), which provides the full 48 Gbps bandwidth needed for high-refresh-rate modes like 4K at 120Hz.

This has been a long time coming due to licensing restrictions from the HDMI Forum. The patches include basic FRL functionality, with Display Stream Compression and additional features like VRR expected to follow.

Once merged, this will greatly improve Linux gaming and desktop use on modern TVs and high-end displays, especially for SteamOS and living room setups
