You'd be totally fine using Linux if you got someone else to set up. The worst thing about getting Linux is the worst thing about installing any OS: installing the OS. It's not hard but it's just hard enough for most people that, unless they're really into doing it, it's probably not worth the brain space to do it. ​

Whenever I walk someone through installing Linux, I also have to sit there and give them a bunch of settings they should flip or change when they finish installing, which is the part that makes me pupset. ​

If you ever got curious though and you have a spare USB stick lying around, you could just plunk a LiveUSB on it and play around with Linux no strings attached. It's fun. ​
