I can't tell if Yesterwynde is actually substantially better than Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human :II: Nature or if it just hit me at a different time in my life where I could appreciate it more. :soft_thinking:

I think all the files are in ~/.local/share/applications and you can just add NoDisplay=true to the .desktop files in order to get them out of your Overview.

I think they're required dependencies for some important stuff :soft_thinking: Qt might just be a build dependency but I think Avahi actually has some system components it's necessary for. You could just manually edit the desktop files instead of using a GUI if that floats your boat.

I feel like a hypocrite since one of the things people criticize Mastodon for is not having end-to-end encrypted DMs and I made a big stink about how that was a silly thing to be concerned about.
Now one of my big hesitations with #Fluxer is that your messages aren't end-to-end encrypted. :blobcatShrugGoogly: Like yeah I know I should trust my peers more than a big corporation, but there's something that makes me nervous about people more close to home being able to read my personal messages.
Mastodon DMs, in my mind, aren't really DMs, they're just really narrowly scoped public messages and you should use a messenger for real privacy. So not having that real privacy on a self-hosted messenger? I dunno. Makes me a little leery.
And yeah I know it's on the roadmap. I think I'd rather wait to use Fluxer until end-to-end encryption is deployed, vetted, and the default. I'm very excited for it to get that and federation. :soft_reach:

The passing of #DollyParton is heartbreaking. In a world where every day is a struggle against those with tremendous wealth and power, it was amazing to see a shining exception to that rule. She was a rich person who actually gave away the bulk of her wealth in order to make the world a better place, and someone who openly wore her Christianity while also preaching universal acceptance.
There are a plenty of good people in the world, but someone who transcends so many of those societal lines we draw in the sand felt uniquely rare. It feels like we lost an important part of a disappearing world. I know in my heart that the world will improve someday, but in the meantime, losing an icon of that potentially better world is really tough. :soft_sad:

I'm still thinking about The Odyssey. :soft_thinking: Normally I really don't like when movies are super grounded in realism (fuck you Tom Hooper) but I find myself really rejuvenated by The Odyssey. There's no overly distracting bloom bleeding in from every corner of the frame, there's no washed out muddy toned color grading, there's no overly pretentious magical realism CGI bullshit, and they *actually used* a fucking *key light* so you could see the damn actors on the screen.

I rewatched a fair bit of Steven Universe recently wondering if I'd feel a bit differently about it. Honestly, not really. All the stuff I really love about it I still love, while all the stuff I hate about it I still hate. The show really peaked in the second half of season 1 and in season 2. As for the ending, I love the entire White Diamond scene and the James Baxter sequence, but I still hated that Steven just hugged it out with the space fascists despite Pink being a victim of abuse while her family literally genocided entire galaxies.
I think what bothers me most is that the Diamonds could've been largely fixed if we were given a bigger villain, even if they were just mentioned instead of being shown. Steven's reconnection with them would've been more impactful if they too were victims. Instead it just felt like the series ended by hugging it out with Hitler. :drgn_sigh: A lot of people say that the show didn't have time to do that, but maybe if they cut back on the insufferable town episodes where Steven hangs out with unlikeable people that don't even act like people, there would've been more time.
I think I love Steven Universe about as much as I hate it. The highs are really high, but the lows are incredibly low and they leave you feeling kinda... icky.
Also the movie and Future are both hot garbage and completely assassinated a lot of the characters, particularly Rose, and overall really made me dislike the series more than I otherwise would've.

My problem with liquid glass is that I don't think it went far enough. :soft_thinking: I think they were worried about keeping it understated, but it would've been cooler if the animations and behavior of the widgets was a lot more water-like.
