I keep emphasizing that a filmmaker doesn't have to be good at *everything*, but what's frustrating with Nolan is that his dialog is not great, he leans heavily on exposition, his plots tend to be hard to follow & not all that engaging, his characters are often wooden without much growth & personality, & his films generally don't tackle deep, complex themes with nuance & insight.
