At laeast in the web UI, I have to click on the specific profile from the list, then I get a three-dot menu with includes "Block". It's similar in Tusky - I have to be viewing the profile to block it. I don't have to unfollow first in either case (referencing stux⚡️ (npub1s20…twmm) 's comment).
