Fuel for the outrage machine.
Bega Valley Shire Council just chucked the Merimbula Muslim community out of their premises. They paid their rent, they held gatherings, plenty of which involved non-Muslims, and they prayed five times a day. It was completely inoffensive and brought together people of all faiths and none; basically a community centre with twenty minutes of prayer a day. The Council won't say *why* they chucked them out beyond saying they've deemed it a place of worship. The State government is saying "no comment".
The power they used to kick out these people is very recent, and a direct line can be drawn from the Bondi shooting to those powers to this absolute dick move. One wonders what would have happened if it had been Jewish people, or Christian people, who had set up such a community centre. For fuck's sake, they say five minutes of prayers every day at every RSL in the country, do they have zoning permission for that?

Simple question Pauline: Who is the "us" that "ours" refers to? And why exactly is that group better or worse or worth preserving or advantaging over any other groups? Don't use dogwhistles like "us" and "ours", be specific.
I'm pretty sure you mean "white people", and that is by definition racist. And common though it might be, racism is not ever common sense.
While you're at it, detail exactly how multiculturalism has failed. It's easy to say, but it's just another dogwhistle unless you back it up with facts and arguments. Since I don't think you have any facts or arguments, I'm guessing that your opposition to multiculturalism might be, hm, there's that word again, racist.

I worry that Australia will do the same thing the USA did with Trump - not take the rise of a clownish, right-wing, well-funded arsehole seriously. Laugh at them, call them deplorable, don't engage. Assume the country could not possibly be so stupid as to elect them. Not swing real resources into a real fight. Then spend three or four years stunned into hand-wringing inaction as the clowns destroy, destroy, destroy.
It feels as if *exactly this* is happening with One Nation now. Preferential voting might soften the blow, but to get an idea of what it will be like, imagine the Howard years again, but with Pauline Hanson.

Bank = St George Bank.
Partner about to go overseas.
Partner advises bank "going overseas!"
Bank acknowledges.
Partner arrives overseas.
Cards get blocked.
Partner contacts bank.
Cards unblocked.
"This won't happen again, will it?"
"Definitely not"
One week later, cards blocked again.
Partner arrives home; cards still blocked.
Multiple phone calls "y u block cards?"
Two days later "Y U BLOCK CARDS?!?"
Bank: "Card's are unblocked"
At NO POINT did the bank, which has all partner's phone numbers and email addresses etc, make any attempt at contact. Not before blocking, while blocked, nor after unblocking.
End result of above: Bank loses one customer.

it was a private place, but not a cardiologist, not a hospital. They do all sorts of scans, ultrasounds etc. I made an appointment, it was in maybe a week, rocked up, and they did the echo and bulk billed it.

Tiny little Tathra in NSW got (I estimate) between 200 and 400 people along. On a cold, rainy Sunday deep in the off season. Who all walked a couple of k over the bridge and back. No counterprotesters as far as I could tell, but a lot of motorists tooting their support.
Amazing and heartening.
PS: My estimate was very conservative. It seems the attendance was probably over 600. There was an official count done at the start of the march that reached 590, then an unknown number of people joined the march at the bridge.

The word "expecting" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Saying "everything will come up roses!" and actually expecting everything to come up roses are two very different things.
It's possible it was error or delusion, but I doubt it was anything more than a simple lie. Probably not even that. A lot of what gets said has no underlying structure at all, it's just a sort of deflective reflex. Stimulus: "What about jobs? Reponse: "There'll be a hundred thousand more in June!"

Dunno if it's common in the US as well, but here in Oz we have long had the phrase "seagull manager". That's a manager that flies in, makes a lot of noise, steals stuff, shits all over everything, then flies out.
Seems like a perfect description of Musk, if possibly a little unfair to seagulls (noble birds that they are).

In Oz at least, businesses are required by law to provide a tax receipt on request (or by default). If you pay by card at the counter they are also required to provide a transaction receipt.
You could try pointing that out to them if you are in a country with such consumer protections.
A lower-friction solution might be to provide fake details, making it clear that this is a workaround for their apparently inflexible system.

I was at the Canberra "protect trans youth" rally. They had at least 400 people show up. A couple of media types seemed to be on the case, so hopefully some coverage. Good speeches, if predictable :-) A VERY diverse crowd, quite uplifting to see.
I didn't get the feeling anyone was in the RG Menzies building. If there was, they didn't have the guts to show themselves.
I didn't feel comfortable taking pics so you will have to just imagine the bust of Robert Menzies guarding the entrance wearing a bright purple scarf, raybans and a white hat of the sort worn by bowls types. He looked very fetching.
Then, because the Merimbula one didn't start until 2pm, I got back in time to go to that one too! Well, the last 20 minutes of it. I missed the speeches but saw the people and made it into the group photo :-) I reckon there would have been 50 to 70 people there, which is pretty good for little Merimbula (and surrounds, I guess).
If the other rallies got proportionally similar turnouts, I feel a solid message will have been sent to David Crisafulli's lot. You never know, maybe they'll listen.
What IS it with the right that they are determined to bring darkness, when with no more effort they could bring light instead?

When and why did this "call everything Trump does 'weird'" start? He's not weird in any usual sense. He's a fraud, a rapist, a felon and a pathological liar. And that's just the provable things, he's a lot of other bad things besides.
Why obscure all that behind an inoffensive, vague description like "weird"? It's not bad or harmful to be weird.
