The idea that God gave us free will instead of forcing us to do only good, hints that God is not a man-made concept. Struggling to keep resolutions, horrified by our own and others' behaviors, sometimes we wish that God didn't allow that.

But we are here to give lovingly. True love can only be given. Giving can only happen out of free will.

Lent began today. I stumbled upon a refreshing thought. Lent isn't about feeling guilty for my sins, feeling sorry for myself or for a suffering God. During this time, I have the opportunity to reflect anew on God's love for me.

Suffering or mortification are not the key. Love is the key. Always has been.
