Eh, my parents painted it (which killed me a little inside, but the finish was this really ugly skin-tone color so they kind of had to) and it looks alright. It adds a lot of dimensionality to the walls and makes it look, I dunno, Nantucket-y?

That said, I don't hate most dated things. I think a lot of times what people mean when they say they're dated is that they look *tired*. So long as a room wasn't built using cheap materials, if you refinish the floors and cabinets, add some new paint, get some period-appropriate furniture, etc, it'll make most styles look good. People who gut mid-century homes because they look dated can get a big fat fuck you from this pubby. ​
