Honestly, I don't blame you. I think there are a couple of other mechanics that people consider it normal to turn off, too. Regarding Taint, presuming you mean Thaumcraft Taint here, it's actually fairly important to have SOME source of it IIRC because you need tainted objects and materials for some things (and some discoveries require scanning tainted things to unlock.) I'm sure there's a way around that though, lots of people disable it (or at least, disable the ability of Taint biomes to spread.)
When would you be considering doing this? I'm out of town for the next ten days or so, I'd hate to miss the start but it is what it is.
