I lost my home, along with the sense of safety and stability it once gave us. I also lost my job and every saving I had built throughout my life. The loss is no longer just material — it feels like the loss of an entire lifetime and the future we once dreamed of.
Today, I am both a mother and a father to my children after their father suffered a devastating injury that caused him to lose one eye and severely damaged the other, leaving him unable to continue life as he once knew it. While trying to remain the support system for my family, I too went through a serious health condition that exhausted me physically and emotionally, yet I keep fighting so I do not collapse in front of my children.
I try to stay strong, not because I do not feel pain, but because my children need me. They need someone who can still give them hope amid all this destruction. We have lost so much, and perhaps even lost the future we once imagined, but we are still holding on to a small glimmer of hope and faith that there are kind people willing to help us save what remains of a life that has been shattered.
We are not asking for the impossible. We are simply searching for a chance to stand again, to protect our children from further loss, and to regain a small part of the dignity and security that war has taken from us.
