I lived in Hawaii for a while, and giant centipedes are also present there. I had a summer job working in a botanical garden and on days when we'd be working in thick brush, we'd wear gaiters or stuff our jeans into heavy socks to prevent disturbed centipedes from crawling up inside our pants legs and biting us somewhere quite delicate. Never happened to me, but I heard the stories.
