Many of them are fundamental. You are correct. But each has its own style. Even though Japanese Zen is a form of Chinese Buddhism which is Hinduism stripped for export, each has a totally unique style. The Way of the Samourai, is totally different than any other Way in its style, while still sharing many of the insights as the Way of the Knight or the Way of the Cowboy. The differences are subtle but important.
