The machine can't 'get it wrong' when you view civilian casualties as a bonus and as part of your wider goal. All the machine does is provide a figleaf to help give people who want to make excuses for genocide something to glom onto and point at when they claim the deaths weren't an intentional choice just down to flawed tech.
