Jack Barsky, famous soviet era KGB spy said the KGB profiled recruitable American information sources primarily based on ideology. Meaning, they believed the highest success rate for manipulation came from understanding and manipulating a person’s ideologies. The KGB also had long term agents in America who would report on American public response and sentiment to different world events in order to be able to predict and manipulate public opinion.
The reason i find this interesting is how much easier it must be now to observe, profile, and manipulate sentiment based on ideology and influence in the social media/AI era.
