The way I'm handling this in flotilla is by "embedding" non-chat stuff into the chat interface. But of course, not all kinds can/should be rendered. Which is the same problem across the rest of nostr, particularly with 1111 comments. I don't see any way for it not to be messy, but as long as clients can embed stuff and link out to some other renderer it should be usable.
