Students at a certain point should have more agency and decision making power about their own educations. The “school to prison pipeline” should not be a thing (sadly, it is). School systems are too often under-resourced and at the mercy of culture war squabbles.
But the founding and fundamental purpose of public schooling is an egalitarian and liberatory one.
