I have complicated feelings about Andrea Dworkin and her book, Intercourse, which I read when I was young and inexperienced, in the 90s.
On the one hand, I see it as part of an opening up of discourse around the horrific extent and normalization of sexual abuse.
On the other, it felt like an argument that very common sexual desires are inherently abusive, particularly those of heterosexual men; it argued that even enthusiastic consent was socially coerced.
