Sad. I know a women (a friend of my mother) who paid €3,000 last year for a Bitcoin course. Turns out it was focused around day-trading and she bought Ripple because, you know, she was going to make 300,000 a year and Ripple was gonna go to $5. Around the same time BTC was where we are now... and Ripple is trading at 1.50 (or so).
I also met her once (around that time) and I told her right there and then to get rid of Ripple... she wouldn't listen to "her friends son who has been in this since forever" which is sad. The only person who made money is the person who is hosting those "courses".
