I agree with the reasoning.
I think X could address some of the fake news problem with one simple change of allowing us to post links again without deboosting accounts.
But all social media greedily want to keep all traffic on their own platforms, and so they all do this, not only X.
It incentivizes the creation of fake news, and especially on X, since that place has a pretension of being a news site, whereas no one would think the same of FB, IG, Snapchat no matter what they say (TikTok is another matter as I see it but I'm not Gen Z enough to use it and so can't comment).
Hmm, well actually, older people probably do get news from FB ...
