The problem here is he has probably translated pub as bar... Bars are not pubs and even if he do a good job then pubs are not created equally so there will never be a good Portuguese explaination for them because unless he has been to a load of pubs and compared them with your pub how would he know?
I am sure you are definately wrong though and should stash that thought in your fanny pack to reconsider later. 😉
