I don't believe you can approach the truly great creative work without wading through some significant percentage of mundanity. In fact, I believe minds need lots of the kind of rest that comes from doing things that are repetitive and don't require a lot of novel output.
If I could put an extremely anecdotal and fuzzy percentage on it, I would say you have to do somewhere between 50%–65% boring stuff in order to get to 35%–50% awesome innovation. You can't just "always innovate."
