Well, it doesn't make any sense if you are primarily interested in truth.
It makes all the sense in the world that some folks would like to train people to happily accept a pat answer to every question they ask, delivered with the appearance of authority.
It's so fucking weird. Go ask these things questions you know they don't have answers to. They'll give you answers anyway.
