I have heard many hardened bitcoiners going through hell lately.
I think part of the reason for this is related to the narrative many have adopted in understanding and explaining bitcoin.
Bitcoiners have commonly said it's perfect, immutable, trustless ect. Anyone who has dug deeply into the current node conflict knows these are not true. That's probably why people are so upset on both sides of the argument, they are scared.
Bitcoin does not eradicate trust, it distributes it. Trust in bitcoin is not just in mathematics, physics, energy or stock to flow ratios, Trust in bitcoin rests in the rationality of a network of human beings to continue to find value in it. If you run a node, if you have a signing device and private keys, that means you and I trust eachother to some degree.
Is the average human being rational? Fuck no, but humanity is rational at the margins. If it wasn't, none of us would be here.
We are trusting humanity insofar as there will be others who see bitcoin's potential to transform civilization, or at least their own lives. If nobody cares about bitcoin, takes self custody, or runs a node bitcoin ia dead. If you think that is impossible you're turning bitcoin into a religion rather than a tool. The network is us.
There is no escaping trust, but I sure as shit trust you wild anons more than I trust pedos in suits with big important fiat titles. We are winning.
Is bitcoin perfect? No, but it is the best chance we have as a species.
