- For some reason these AI generated proofs and the controversy surrounding them don't make me depressed. Maybe it's because I work on topics that aren't fashionable, so no AI company will try to scoop me, and I can view the news as just another part of the world's ongoing drama - which is, yes. often depressing, but it's global warming and the collapse of democracy in the US that depresses me, not AI companies battling to show off their mathematical powers. Also, I've written a paper with the help of AI, just to see what it's like, and now I know what that's (currently) like. I didn't get it to write a paper for me! I just got it to do some calculational arguments that I find tiring, and then I spent time taking those calcluations and rewriting them in more conceptual ways that I like better. That's what I do when reading almost any piece of mathematics: people rarely highlight the ideas I find important, so I have to do it myself.
