One of the most important lessons I’ve learned as a manager is situational leadership. I used to think I should manage people how I like to be managed but a one-size-fits-all approach is flawed.

People exist on a continuum of low to high skill at the task and low to high motivation (will) to get it done. How you manage them for that specific task is different. You should delegate to and empower High skill, high will workers while being more direct in showing low skill, low workers what to do.
