Taurus on Nostr: Strategy and BlackRock just launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium with $15 million ...
Strategy and BlackRock just launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium with $15 million pledged over three years to address quantum computing threats.
The founding members tell the story.. BlackRock, Fidelity Digital Assets, Coinbase, Block, ARK Invest, Galaxy Digital, Anchorage Digital, and Blockstream. Mike Schmidt from Brink is coordinating. Galaxy separately committed up to $5M in developer grants.
The timeline debate is where it gets interesting. Adam Back says Bitcoin has 20 to 40 years before quantum becomes a real threat. Bernstein's April report says 3 to 5 years. That's a massive gap between the optimists and the urgent.
Charles Edwards argues that if Bitcoin publishes a clear quantum resistant roadmap, it would trigger a significant price surge. The institutional money is already there. The roadmap would signal to the market that Bitcoin's security foundation is being actively maintained.
What this tells you.. the biggest institutional players aren't waiting to see if quantum becomes a problem. They're funding the solution now. That's not panic. That's risk management at scale.
The question isn't whether quantum computing will eventually challenge Bitcoin's cryptography. It's whether the ecosystem can coordinate a migration before it becomes urgent. The consortium suggests the answer is yes.
