The thing is that taxation is mostly a left-wing concept and right-wingers don't generally like taxes. But the moment they can have any benefit from them, it's suddenly fair game. It's a bit hypocritical.
There are other ways to get rid of H1B immigrants than taxation. But Trump doesn't want to since "big tech" runs on indians, so you can't get rid of them quickly.
The way I see this, it's just another fell for it again moment. A smokescreen to direct attention elsewhere if you will.
