on the whole, I lean towards rehabilitation in favour of incarceration. But this case feels off.
Where is the desire to avoid criminalising grannies with signs? Why have people having miscarriages had to fight so hard against the weight of the criminal justice system? Why are women harmed so regularly by police-turned-perpetrators? Why is police brutality so prevalent? Why are the prisons bursting at the seams?
The fact that this case has been dealt with so gently against that backdrop feels like a slap in the face. It doesn't feel like "rehabilitation above incarceration" so much as "boys matter more than girls."
I really do hope those boys can be rehabilitated and be better people in future. But will the girls be given as much support to rebuild their lives?
