If it was clean enough to drink, there would be no point in boiling it. The locals here get used to the microbes in the water, and they can drink it and often not get sick. They consider this to be drinkable water.

But clean water has no microbes that you have to get used to. In Michigan, this is what I was used to: Water with no microorganisms in it, coming out of the tap. I used to just go directly from the tap to a cup to my mouth, and drink liters per day.
