Solana's SIMD-0437 proposal, aimed at significantly reducing storage costs, has entered its testing phase on the network. Developed by Solana's engineering team at Anza, this initiative is set to be implemented in five distinct stages. The ultimate goal is to decrease the cost of storing data on Solana by 90%, lowering the lamports_per_byte from 6,960 to 696. This reduction is expected to substantially decrease the deposit required for rent-free token accounts, from approximately $0.16 to $0.016, thereby lowering the costs associated with account creation and application deployment.
