Because sadly both EU elites and many European nations' elites are intrinsically fascist in their MO and way of thinking.
In fact Europe gave birth to fascism.
US just imported it later on.
State capitalism (crony capitalism), corporativism, race theories, aggressive nationalism (i.e. imperialism), squadrism, anti-modernism are all european patents.
Truth be told. The same could be said for Marxism (i.e. socialism and communism) and liberalism.
Ideologies - right or wrong - are a very european thing, and fascism is currently the dominant one in Europe
