There is a direct connection between the relay and the client, so a router could figure out who someone is just by tracking the relay destination address and packets.
The relays have metadata including the IP address of the client, so a compromised relay can be used to identify where someone is posting from. This wouldn't be difficult for a Chinese spy to gain access to.
