This is why information on mastodon is generally more reliable than twitter. Any nobody can post something on Twitter and it can go viral. Bridges can be used to launder pretty easily. Use something like Thorchain (no KYC) to bridge into Monero, then bridge smaller amounts back. That's layering, the it obscures the trail.

Mixers aren't the only laundering tool, going through shady exchanges, cross-chain bridges, and P2P platforms is laundering, too. It's not just the tool which makes something laundering. Laundering is the intent to obscure and there are a number of ways to do it with crypto which include mixers. That is the legal and forensic definition of laundering. It's not a lie.

Unloading stolen crypto **is** money laundering. Laundering is when people use shady exchanges, mixers, or bridges to hide its origin. That's the layering step in laundering. It's doesn't have to be converted to fiat to be laundered, they just have to obscure the origin.

Fiat systems started with irreversible transactions too, but eventually had to add reversibility because merchants could just take people’s money and disappear. Reversibility was added as a consumer protection feature.

As far as I understand, a parasite:
* Needs the other entity to survive and reproduce
* Harms that entity against the other entity's will (otherwise it is a symbiotic relationship)
* Lives on or in the organism (otherwise it is just higher in the food chain)

It could be related. The problems with the culture of Nostr could be due to the protocol.
Blocking is limited in Nostr. If someone blocks me, I can still follow, respond to their posts, and other people can see my replies.
Also, relays can't block troublesome people either.
So sometimes it ends up attracting a certain kind of folk who would have just been blocked on platforms.

It's just a general limitation of a broadcast protocol. Since it goes out to everyone, more people can hear it and it's harder to silence. However, since it is sent out to so many places, it's also easier to track who sent it out.
The ideal, in my opinion, is to have the message sent to people who want to hear it without anyone knowing who is listening to it and who sent it.

Better protection against compromised relays and traffic being monitored en-route.
There is a direct connection between the relay and the client, so a router could figure out who someone is just by tracking the relay destination address and packets.
The relays have metadata including the IP address of the client, so a compromised relay can be used to identify where someone is posting from. This wouldn't be difficult for a Chinese spy to gain access to.
