My problem with research on conspiracies is that most of it seems to be planted in order to keep the researcher caught in a web of disinformation. On the subject of whether vegetables are poisonous because of pesticides and poor soil quality, positive evidence is mercilessly suppressed and called a conspiracy, and you're back in the previous case.

And in the end, I agree with you. What's the point of the research if it doesn't have any practical use? Once you actually start engineering systems that require you to understand the curvature of the earth, you'll either doublethink the earth is flat anyway or just accept it's a sphere.
