Good intuitive choice then. Apparently borax is diamagnetic so I assuming it some of those smaller bits being pinged around while the columns being created would be the paramagnetic copper sulphate crystals aligning their poles in response to the field and stacking up. I will have to send you some paramagnetic rocks to play around with when I get the paramagnetic meter later in the year.
