Meet Mack 🐾🦮

This handsome lad isn’t just my best friend—he’s my guide dog and my independence wrapped up in four paws and a wagging tail.

People often ask, “What does a guide dog actually do?” The answer is… a lot more than you’d think.

Every day Mack helps me:

🦮 Find doors, seats, lifts, crossings, bus stops and shop entrances.

🚦Stop at every kerb so I know when I’m about to step into the road.

🚧 Guide me safely around obstacles that would otherwise send me face-first into a lamppost (he’s saved me from countless bins, signposts and low branches!).

⬆️ Find stairs and help me line up safely to use them.

👥 Navigate through busy crowds without me having to guess where everyone is going.

🛑 Practise intelligent disobedience—one of the coolest things guide dogs learn. If I tell him to go forward but there’s a danger I can’t detect, he’ll refuse the command and keep me safe.

🏡 Help me travel with confidence, giving me the freedom to work, socialise, explore and simply get on with life.

But when the harness comes off…

🎾 He’s a complete goofball.

He loves fuss, playtime, sniffing absolutely everything, and reminding me that guide dogs are dogs first and workers second.

People often tell me, “He’s helping you.” That’s true—but it goes much deeper than that.

Mack doesn’t just guide me from A to B. He gives me confidence, freedom, independence, and the chance to live life on my own terms.

So today, here’s a little appreciation post for the world’s best co-pilot. ❤️
